English Hedgerow is a full service florist and eclectic gift store. Weddings and corporate or university functions are English Hedgerow's unique specialty; combining distinctive floral design and decoration with event coordination and management.

We are a family business striving to provide service of the highest quality and to always exceed our customers’ expectations. We came to the US from England 20 years ago and this year marks the 14^th anniversary of our florist business. We started on Main Street, Mahomet, in 1996 and opened our Urbana store in 1999. We operated both stores for a while but eventually closed the Mahomet store in 2003, although we still service the Mahomet-Seymour area through daily floral deliveries.

I am frequently asked what a hedgerow is, and how I came to name the store English Hedgerow.

In Britain, the countryside is divided by living fences, our hedgerows. Often undisturbed since medieval times, many treasures are found hidden in their roots. Dense and diverse, hedgerow shrubs, flowers and vines are a wonderful source of inspiration to a floral designer.

Constance Spry, a British floral designer (in whose style I was trained 36 years ago) encouraged everyone to decorate their homes with fresh flowers, vegetables, berries and hedgerow finds. English Hedgerow continues to offer arrangements with an unusual, botanical twist, combining the very best cultivated flowers from around the globe with fruits and vines in unique and unexpected combinations.

Mike Philpott ~ Business Manager

Mike Philpott is Helen’s husband and a professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

He assists with a number of activities at the Hedgerow from facilities management, maintenance, IT infrastructure and advertising.

He is also the Hedgerow Webmaster and book keeper.
